Packing List and Gear Guide

General

When in nature, it is best to travel as lightly as possible. We will have wagons to carry backpacks and supplies. Please refrain from packing items that are not on the following list. Please ensure that every single item is labeled with your child’s name.

  • Rain gear: water-proof (not water-resistant) gear to be worn over all other clothing. Bibs and full rain suits are recommended. Rain boots are a must for muddy, rainy, and damp days. Boots should not be hard plastic, as they hinder movement. Rain gear should be included every day, regardless of weather forecast.

  • Sun hats: should be included for hot, sunny days.

  • Sunscreen: should be included for hot, sunny days.

  • Bug spray: should be included for all but cold days.

  • Footwear: should be closed-toed, with good rubber traction. No Crocs or Natives. For wet days, please pack extra pairs of socks (x2) and an extra pair of rain boots.

  • Snack: healthy, hearty snacks should always be included.

  • Water: should be provided in ample quantities. The water fountains are not predictably on in City parks. On hot summer days, please pack two bottles.

  • On cold and/or wet days, please refer to the gear guide below. If the weather calls for one additional "under" layer, a base layer made of appropriate material is integral.

  • Waterproof backpacks are a necessity. Roll-top sacks are recommended. Everything you pack for your child should fit into one pack.
